We are very proud of the fact that our Orange County dental hygienist team is interested in every aspect of your dental health. There are quite a few different beverages and foods that cause plaque and this film can actually cause gum disease as well as cavities.
That said, we’ve put together a list of some bad food for your teeth you should either eat in moderation or not at all.
It’s a sad but inescapable fact that some of the foods we love are the worst for our teeth. Candy holds the number one position. If you want to drill a little deeper, sour candy contains some of the ingredients that are even worse than other kinds.
Pretty much everyone knows that drinking alcohol in moderation isn’t bad for your health unless you’re an alcoholic. However, our Orange County dental hygienist will bet that not everyone knows drinking booze can dry out your mouth.
The problem is if your mouth stays dry long enough you can actually accelerate some kinds of gum disease. Here’s another issue. A dry mouth doesn’t produce enough saliva to wash away food debris. If you need to drink, always enjoy it in moderation and have some water afterwards to keep your mouth hydrated.
We’ll bet there are those of you that think that the last title was a misprint. However, the American Medical Association warns everyone off biting into hard things that can damage your tooth enamel and ice qualifies.
In fact, statistics even tell us that chewing on ice can loosen crowns or chip teeth. If you’re really looking to play it safe, you should chill your drinks before hand and avoid using ice.
If you have any other questions, we are always happy to help. Our facilities are always bright and welcoming. The staff inside is always well-informed and ready to help. 7 Day Dental is committed to making sure every member of your family gets great dental care.
Beyond listing these bad foods for your teeth, we recommend regular dental checkups. That way we will be able to spot any problems before they become large issues. We want to be with you every step of the way. That includes having a great Orange County dental hygienist team on staff.
